Salt Lake Art Center

The Salt Lake Art Center showcases contemporary art. It was founded in 1931 and is in the center of Salt Lake City. They also offer workshops, film screenings, panel discussions, and educational programs.

Want to know the best part? Admission is free.

They have Art Saturday which is for families. An upcoming event is creating solar prints and creating masterpieces with sidewalk chalk in the sculpture garden, sounds really cool. My kids and I have participated in some of these Art Saturdays and have had a blast.

There is also the Art Truck. Yes, it is mobile. The last exhibit was hands on and we were able to create and add to the art display.

There is a workshop at the University of Utah’s Book Arts Studio on March 19th. I have taken workshops there before and their studio is brand new and amazing. The instructors are inspiring and knowledgeable.

“Participants leave with the foundation needed to begin designing, digitally printing and constructing their own line of boutique books.”

I think this will be a fun one, although I will not be attending.

Also, Utah educators be sure to visit the above site, they offer free workshops for teachers. You can take away some interesting projects for your students. The workshops incorporate language arts, science, history, math, and arts.

Enjoy,
~Alie

Henry David Thoreau

Today I am featuring Thoreau. While practicing yoga this morning the instructor quoted Thoreau and it took me back to reading Walden and how much I enjoy Thoreau.

I would like to share a few quotes with you:

“As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.”
~Henry David Thoreau

“What you get by achieving your goals is to as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
~Henry David Thoreau

I am going to continue blogging while planning my redesign of the site. I received a clue to day that I may be getting a really cool birthday present that will help me with redesigning my blog. Yay.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, I would like to hear them. Also, who are some of your favorite artists?

Cheers,
~Alie
