Arts Advocacy Day

Arts Advocacy Day: The 2011 National Arts Action Summit

If you like art and believe it is important, today is the day to let your voice be heard. The kickoff starts at the U.S. House of Representatives. For those of us not in Washington DC, we can send a message to our Representatives and Senators letting them know how important we think the arts are in our communities.

I am a firm believer in the importance of arts in our schools and communities. Art helps all students, special needs, low income, etc. It is also an area that is quick to be cut from programs and one that needs our support.

In my home state I watched a wonderful program close down due to budget cuts. Youth City Artways offered free workshops to kids and families, it also had visiting artists that went into schools and worked with students. I know first hand how this program aided my family and how much it is missed.

I hope you will join me in letting our Representatives know how much art means to our communities.
